Shallots (Cherulli or Cheriya Ulli) are bulb roots similar to onions. but growing in clusters and having characteristically less pungency. Their better nutrition profile (having more antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins) compared to onions, makes them one of the favorite ingredients in cuisine across the regions.
They are a rich source of flavonoid antioxidants (like quercetin, kaempferfol, etc) and sulfur antioxidant compounds making them ideal for liver and blood vessel health. They are also known for their antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-mutagenic (protects from cancers) and anti-diabetic activities.
